Q: Why are the GEICO slogan and mascots so well-known?

 

Most likely, you've seen at least one of GEICO's memorable commercials in your life. Not only did you notice it, but it also stayed with you. No other insurance company can match what GIECO has accomplished in terms of branding and marketing. It's worth noting that, while many businesses leave similar long-term impressions, this is an insurance company. A dull industry that isn't supposed to have clever advertisements that make you laugh or sympathize with their fictional characters!


GEICO’s approach is creative and effective because of the loveable characters that leave a lasting impression.


Story Telling

The unique storylines make us laugh, talk, and care about the characters.


GEICO has developed a following based on the special characters that appear in their advertisements. These well-known characters go on adventures that make you (the audience) feel a certain way. For example, the tagline "So easy a caveman can do it!" appears above a caveman attempting to navigate modern society. He displays the emotion that he is being associated with being stupid as he looks at the ads claiming how simple the process of joining GIECO can be. Even though he despises these advertisements, you can't help but laugh and admire the creativity. You care about the caveman, and you're almost excited to see where he'll go next. This is a fantastic story, and it is well-written.


If you're applying for jobs in the marketing, branding, or graphic design industries, you've probably come across a requirement that says something along the lines of "must be a good storyteller." So, what exactly does that imply? To put it another way, you need to be able to take people on a journey that evokes some sort of emotion while also connecting it to your brand. The importance of messaging cannot be overstated, and many businesses continue to make mistakes in this area. What is the reason for this? When it came to the brand's voice or culture, many companies did not have a group of creatives driving the decision-making process. Most likely, it was run by an older generation that has yet to embrace change. This is neither a bad thing nor a fact; it is simply my constructive opinion.


Best Advertising Techniques


Humor

  • Humor is a great way to connect with your audience. It allows them to view you as human. ( Even if you are a talking gecko)


Saving > Service

  • The ads also emphasize the focus on “savings” versus “service".

  • "Fifteen minutes could save you 15% or more on car insurance," GEICO always says. This is more concerned with how much money you can save rather than the quality of service they provide. Why? It's possible that it's because the service isn't particularly exciting. After all, it's insurance, so how much fun could it be?


Consistency in the message

  • 20+ years of launching ad after ad. Even with different characters bringing their unique humorous stories. The tagline has always been the same.


Different

  • In a boring industry, Geico has provided clever content that has everyone knowing the brand.
