MY FAVORITE MARKETING TOOLS

That did not come with your marketing degree

Q: What tools do you often use in your professional marketing role?

In this blog you will learn about a few tools I actively use in my marketing roles that I did not learn in college. Learn how to use these and I assure that you will be ahead of your competition. With the understanding of these tools along with my creative ability, I am able to be confident in my marketing position.

Free and easy

Canva. If you have not heard of this by now, YOU'RE WELCOME. This tool can be used by anyone. It is free to use and easy to learn. To get an idea simply head over to canva.com and select templates. Here you can get the exact dimensions of your desired content. For example, type in "Instagram post" and it will give you a template with the exact 1080px x 1080px space to work with. Need a quick logo to put on a website or facebook banner? There are templates for those too.

>export PNG

If you are creating a logo or anything with text I suggest visiting tinypng.com after Canva to compress your work. I struggled with exporting from Canva because the quality would become blurry. With this free tool you can preserve the quality of your work.

Pricey but worth it

(Adobe Illustrator, AFTER EFFECTS, Premiere PRO)

When working in a professional environment there is minimal room for error. Most errors could easily be avoided with quality software. From my experience Adobe Illustrator is an absolute necessity. Unlike Canva where you can make logos with ease by using the templates, clipart, backgrounds, and free to use images, Illustrator makes the process a bit more challenging. I use Illustrator to make company logos. With Illustrator, designs can be scaled with ease to fit on banners, billboards, and even bottle caps without losing quality.

Here is an example of a logo I designed for a client using Adobe Illustrator.

Difficult but awesome

Another Adobe product that I often use for my marketing needs is After Effects.

This is a more advanced software that allows you to enable graphic motion to your video/image. There are infinite possibilities that one can do with this software, but to be good at it requires dedication and creativity. It is NOT easy but well worth it. Have you ever wondered how a company makes its logo spin or shimmer? That's After Effects.

AMAZING FOR VIDEO

Lastly, I wanted to touch on Adobe Premiere Pro. This is a video editing software that is critical in my marketing roles. This is arguably the best video editing software out there and is used by many for commercials, movies, and online videos. In the era of social media, video content is essential when promoting your business or personal brand so this is a great tool to have in your arsenal. This is more complicated than Apple's iMovie so be patient if you are making that transition. One huge advantage using Premiere Pro is its integration. Many big filmmakers use Premiere Pro for those Hollywood blockbusters.

So, if you are in need of something quick I recommend using Canva. You can use it for everything from from promotional flyers to YouTube thumbnails. If you are looking to make your company's logo or any large banners, stickers, labels, or other promotional products, I recommend using Adobe Illustrator. If you want to stand out with your videos, logo, or promotional content, I recommend adding some effects with Adobe After Effects. And lastly, if you want to create valuable video content to engage your audience I recommend Adobe Premiere Pro.

These are some of the tools I use regularly in my marketing roles that did not come with my marketing degree and will help you excel in your role as well.
